Wind Farm Installation Vessels
Although the first commercial offshore wind farm site was built nearly 10 years ago the offshore wind farm construction and maintenance market within the UK and Europe remains very much in its infancy and is likely to mature and develop rapidly over the next 5 to 10 years. European demand for offshore wind powered energy requires more than 6,000 turbines to be installed between now and 2020.
The wind farm installation fleet (mainly consisting of jack-up self propelled barges) is currently centrally located in the North Sea with small scale wind farms in countries outside of Europe traditionally installed using crane barges.
Through our reputation for dealing in specialist dynamically positioned vessels Derrick Offshore has become a leading and respected presence in the offshore wind farm installation and maintenance market. We have a wide range of experience in this sector including procuring a wide range of chartered vessels to support in-field power and fibre optic cable installation and burial.
Derrick Offshore has been instrumental in developing new vessel designs for purpose-built, second generation wind farm installation and maintenance vessels.
