Michael Derrick - Non-Executive Chairman
Michael J Derrick founded Derrick Offshore Ltd in November 1976.
He had served ten years with P&O, having qualified as a Master Mariner in 1972, before joining a leading London shipbroking company, Eggar Forrester Ltd. His interest and enthusiasm for the offshore industry began in 1974 when he was given the task of purchasing the first four vessels for a new UK supply vessel company - Star Offshore Services. He then went on to set up the Offshore Department before deciding to branch out on his own in 1976.
From the outset, Derrick Offshore developed an international reputation for the highest professional and ethical standards which resulted in an impressive client base and many long-term friendships. The company's detailed knowledge of the industry, team spirit and lateral thinking, both in newbuilding contracts and conversion concepts for the oil & gas and submarine telecom cable industries all contributed to consolidating this reputation.
On the company's 25th anniversary, management and shareholding transferred to Sean Harvey and Ian Coates who had, respectively, worked together at Derrick Offshore for some 22 and 17 years and which, combined with Michael's time, resulted in 64 years of combined experience in a 25 year old company, itself quite unusual.
Michael's hobbies include sailing and skiing. Having sailed the Atlantic and competed in Antigua Week, the Marblehead and numerous Round the Island races, he now sails in the Eastern Mediterranean with his wife, Carolyn.
He remains Chairman of Derrick Offshore Ltd and trustee of the Employee Benefit Trust.
