Shuttle Tankers
A shuttle tanker is a special type of crude oil tanker built, or converted specifically, to carry oil from offshore oil platforms and other offshore oil producing installations. Shuttle tankers initially started operating in the North Sea; however, this market has expanded to the Gulf of Mexico, the Canadian east coast and Brazil.
Shuttle tankers are often preferable in situations where oil fields do not produce sufficiently large volumes of oil to warrant the installation of expensive pipelines to shore, or in connection with oil fields far offshore and in deepwater where the installation of pipelines is not possible.
Derrick Offshore is able to assist clients in sourcing dynamically-positioned shuttle tankers for use in the offshore market.
